Note 1: The Association Ground, Woolloongabba was a new main venue used by the AQFA in 1888. It later became the site of the Brisbane Cricket Ground, commonly known as 'The Gabba'.

Note 2: The date and venue for the first Blackstone Rovers vs. Bundanba Unions match are unknown. There is no report for it other than a reference to it in a subsequent match report (Qld Times 31/07/1888). The match probably took place prior to 30/06/1888 because both teams were described as lacking practice at the time.

Note 3: The method for determining the semi-final pairings is unknown, but it may have factored in geographical considerations.

Note 4: A protest by Thistle against the second goal score by Bundanba Unions was dismissed by the AQFA (Qld Figaro and Punch 06/10/1888).

Note 5: Both Bundamba and Bundanba were in common usage during the 1880s as the name of the locality east of Ipswich. The club that lasted for this single season only was most commonly referred to as Bundanba Unions.
