Final season tables -- Queensland 1884 to 2024 -- Index

The list below sets out the champions (Grand Final winners) since 1959, and the premiership winner and runner-up for every season of top flight football in Queensland since it commenced in 1884.

Seasons 1884 to 1919

Prior to the establishment of the QFA in 1920, association football in Queensland was often loosely administered, and the level of reporting coverage varied from good to non-existent.

From 1884 to 1888 the AQFA administered a Cup competition with badges awarded to members of the winning team.

After a hiatus, the QBFA succeeded the AQFA and commenced a Challenge Cup competition (often referred to in newspapers of the time as the 'Brisbane Challenge Cup') in 1892.

Teams from Ipswich competed in the QBFA Challenge Cup between 1892 and 1912, except for the following seasons: 1905, 1906, 1908, 1909. The Ipswich clubs did not affiliate with the QBFA from 1913 to 1919.

Ipswich clubs won the QBFA Challenge Cup in 9 of 12 seasons from 1893 to 1904, so West Moreton British FA premiers are listed below during subsequent periods of splits competition, due to the relative strength of their club competition.

A league format was used for the Challenge Cup except for 1894, 1901 and 1902. A play-off match was scheduled if teams finished tied for first place on points. Some seasons featured a final series with between two and four teams competing.

Seasons 1920 to current

For seasons 1920, 1925 and 1930 to 1936, the Ipswich championship was at least the equal of the Brisbane championship, and has been included below as a top flight league for these seasons.

During these seasons separate leagues were run by the Brisbane & District FA and the Ipswich West Moreton British FA due to a series of conflicts between the administrations.

For seasons 1962 and 1963, the Queensland Soccer Federation and the Queensland Soccer Football Association ran rival competitions, but only the QSF competition can be deemed a top flight league.

This is because of the ten clubs participating in 1961 Division One, eight joined the QSF. The QSF took over the control of all Queensland soccer after the 1963 Unity Series.

Champions have been determined by a final series contested in the top division of Queensland football for every season since 1959, except 2000.

Since 1920, premiers have been awarded every season to the team at the top of the table at the end of the regular season, except when decided by a Top Four final series in 1923, 1925, 1929, 1930, 1931 and 1933.

A ranking of clubs by premierships and grand final wins is listed below.
